During a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah highlights the need to deepen engagement, including the finalisation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Naval Cooperation and other pending agreements. Furthermore, His Majesty in the titah also welcomes the strengthening people-to-people ties as well as exploration of investment opportunities. In the titah His Majesty said that this year is especially meaningful as Brunei and Russia commemorate 35 years of diplomatic relations this October, which have matured into substantive cooperation across key areas such as education, defence, security and people-to-people exchanges.

 

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Bilateral Meeting was held in Kazan, Russian Federation.

 

During the Bilateral Meeting, both leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest including Brunei's support for an independent State of Palestine based on the two-State solution and pre-1967 borders, and for an immediate cessation of hostilities and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, as well as Russia's consistent support for ASEAN Centrality and the Palestinian cause. His Majesty expresses hope that diplomatic efforts would help safeguard commerce, reduce regional tensions, and lead to a swift, peaceful outcome in the region, including the Strait of Hormuz. At the meeting, His Majesty conveys appreciation to His Excellency for his commitment to strengthening the two countries' relations and extended an invitation for him to hold a State Visit to Brunei Darussalam.
